it can wait

It’s official: the best way to break in a new pair of shoes is to dance in them.

And so, the cleaning, the tidying, washing, packing, cooking, calling, REALITY of LIFE can WAIT because I got new shoes today and they’re pretty and I’m listening to some awesome music and it’s sunny out and I am having a pretty awesome day.

It’s so weird how a mood can swing, up and down, from really crappy to really happy. But you know, you can make it happen yourself. Listening to great music, calling up a good friend, chatting away, curling up in bed with a good book and a hot chocolate until you feel ready to face the world again. It’s ok to figure things though at your own pace.

But the happier you are, the more happy energy you send out into the world, I believe, and I think that it’s a good thing to do. I don’t believe in karma or in a God who rewards those who do well and punishes those who don’t. I do believe that if you send out happy energy into the world, it makes the world a better place and it makes you a better person.

Because, you see, what you practise eventually becomes muscle memory, right? So if you are constantly asking yourself if it’s the right thing to do, if you’re constantly sending out happy energy, if you’re constantly trying to make the world a better place, then it’ll eventually just become second nature to you.

So clap your hands.

Don’t let go of the people that matter.

Kickstart the love.

Cut loose.

And just have fun, because everything else can wait.

roadsidea

It’s what you call flowers that hang over fences and reach over footpaths, begging you to take them home. (When I say you, I mean me. And when I mean me, I mean, I got the term from Brigid Lowry).

So you take a walk, refreshing yourself after work, perhaps; or maybe you can’t sleep; you want to lose weight; you like chasing butterflies… any or all of the above, or perhaps a new reason, one you thought up all on your own. There are as many reasons to take a walk as there are people; as many as there are walking paths, footpaths, roads, landmarks, trees, flowers, stars in the sky.

You see a flower hanging over the footpath. Maybe it’s so far over that you will run into it unless you duck or bob or weave. Maybe it’s just peeking over shyly, like you were at the club on Saturday night, wishing that cute boy would come over and ask you to dance. Maybe it’s on the nature strip, in a bed in a public garden, maybe it’s right in front of your feet.

Say hello. Whisper sweet nothings into its petals. Stroke its leaves and inhale its sweet fragrance. Take it home and place it in a glass, or a bud vase, or a kitsch retro teapot. Make friends with it and let it into your heart. When it dies, say goodbye and thank you for the ride, for making your day one with a flower in it.

yesterday’s gone

I’ve realised recently that you have to grab things while you can. Do it when you think of it, because you can’t go back in time and change something, and usually, if you’re feeling restless, there’s an easy solution. JUST DO SOMETHING. Simple as that.
And yeah, there have been so many times when I’ve wanted to have done something but because i’ve been lazy in the past, it hasn’t happened. I do tend to be a lazy person, which is part of the reason for this blog – it’s to get me doing stuff, to keep me accountable. I know I don’t have an audience to keep me accountable, but the fact that this is public helps, for sure.
So thank-you, nonexistent audience. And hey, if you do exist and you take offence to me not believing in you, by all means, comment. Even if it’s just to tell me I’m a self-deluded idiot. All criticism is good criticism. I think.
I’m still new to this by the way. I don’t have my blog completely set up and I don’t know how to do half the things I’d like to do, but hey. I’m learning. It’s ok to still be learning. If I waited till I felt like I was ready to do this stuff, I’d be waiting years, probably. I think I needed to start the blog to motivate myself into even beginning to figure out how it all works.
Yesterday’s Gone by Bernard Fanning. Like I said, I can’t figure everything out at the moment. If I could, I’d have uploaded the song. As it is, you’ll have to find it for yourself. Sorry!
